Charitable remainder trusts (CRTs) are highly popular because of tax incentives,
including avoidance of capital gains tax. Also, many donors naturally
need to retain the income but are willing to make a current decision to
leave the "remainder" to charity.
JMP Charitable Management Services is a boutique literature
and services firm specializing in charitable planning, particularly the
CRT where help is most often needed. We assist from the planning stage
through to when assets are distributed from the CRT to charity.
Publications
We discontinued the abbreviated Executive Edition and now publish
only the more popular Reference Edition and newsletters. In 1994 we began
publishing the library. In 1999, we began publishing our materials only
in an electronic format, so our resources are timely and searchable without
the need for filing or supplement volumes. Even the 600,000 word Reference
Edition with Appendices is one file to facilitate easy searches.
The Reference Edition is updated three times a year. Cut-offs
are approximately April 30, August 31, and December 31.
Newsletters are issued three times a year with the same cut-off
dates.
The "full library" option.
Single user licenses: The Reference Edition is sold with
newsletters for $495 a year. This consists of three passwords to
three successive editions and newslettes, so it is approximately
an annual subscription. This includes the archive of newsletters
dating from August, 1997. This "full library" option is the
most
comprehensive resource on CRT research available anywhere, and it
is available within minutes from the "CRT R&D Library" link
on
this site.
Mutliple user licenses. We offer "links licenses" which allow
charities and others to "link" the parties in high-end
philanthropy with the same library. The links license serves
as an educational and promotional vehicle for charities and
others interested in reaching those involved in high-end
philanthropy.
With a links license, the purchaser can either relay the password
to other users who access the full library from this site, or the
purchaser can add a password-protected link to its web site.
This is easily accomplished since, while the library is large, it
consists of three files in PDF format.
A typical charity's links license for its advisor network sells
for $3,600 a year. Advisors or financial groups may consider a
links license for educational and promotional purposes, or may
sponsor a "links license" for a charity.
Newsletters only.
Single user licenses. Newsletters may be purchased separately on
an annual subscription basis. This consists of three
newsletters, which generally run at least ten pages and sometimes
run over twenty pages. The cost is $150.
Multiple user licenses. Newsletters may be purchased by
charities and others for re-distribution to advisor networks.
The cost of an annual subscription for a typical charity is
$2,000 per year.
Mr. Pusey's treatise Charitable Remainder Trusts, Reference Edition is
described in a review in Estate Planning magazine, March 2001, as "the
comprehensive reference source for this subject area... Cleanly written,
well-organized, and impressively documented, this volume offers the most
complete and up-to-date treatment of this subject available anywhere...
Mr. Pusey has improved upon what was already the reference standard in
the field. This is an indispensable resource." It is described as "the
most comprehensive tax and financial treatise on CRTs on the market" by
Charitable Gift Planning News.
